WOODMILL & community center // PROVIDENCE, RI
[a study of traditional woodworking and New England making]
This was an in depth analysis of an abandoned and defunct factory building in Providence, Rhode Island. Through extensive precedent research of both the practice and product of woodworking, I produced a plan for the adaptive re-use of a portion of the building to create a municipal wood mill.
The building precedent for my design was:
/// The Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum_
The concept precedents for my design were:
/// The Log Cabin_
/// The Adirondack Chair_
These precedents all employ a simplicity of design and combination of elements in both concept and use, that are crucial in the restoration and renovation of architecture.
